HOT FOIL STAMPING FOR STRONG BRAND IMAGES

Your packaging is the first impression your brand makes - even before anyone sees the contents. With hot foil stamping, you can make this moment unforgettable. Shiny, high-quality and tangibly special. LESER packaging with hot foil stamping catches the eye, arouses curiosity and sticks in the memory.
Making a brand tangible

Making a brand tangible

Hot foil stamping not only gives your packaging a premium look, it also feels that way too. Glossy or matt metallic effects make your brand visible and tangible.

Whether in gold, silver or with coloured effects, embossing creates targeted highlights and effectively accentuates logos, lettering or design elements.

Depending on the technique used, a noticeable difference in height is created, giving your packaging depth and structure. This makes your quality message not only visible, but also tangible.

The embossing is particularly effective on dark backgrounds. The film provides reliable coverage and is abrasion-resistant, even with frequent use.

The path to embossing.

How hot foil stamping works at LESER - in 3 simple steps:

  1. Create an embossing die - First, a custom embossing die featuring your logo or design element is produced.
  2. Heat meets pressure - the heated mould is pressed onto the packaging under high pressure - with a thin foil in between, e.g. in gold, silver or a colour of your choice.
  3. The ink adheres, the film peels away - under heat, the ink peels away from the film with pinpoint precision and adheres exactly where desired. The result: a flat, glossy embossed finish - clean, high-quality and extremely durable.

At LESER, you can choose between 3 embossing methods - depending on the effect you wish to achieve.

plan embossing.
The classic.

Plan embossing is the most commonly used method for high-quality finishing. Heat, pressure and coloured foil produce clear, flat embossed designs - for example, in glossy gold, silver or colour. LESER uses this technique particularly in the jewellery industry to personalise packaging and carrier bags with logos. Classic, effective, elegant.

Blind embossing.
Subtle, but noticeable.

Blind embossing works in the same way as standard embossing - but without any coloured foil. The embossing remains colourless, yet is visible and, above all, tactile. It plays with light, shadow and texture, creating a sophisticated, understated finish with a distinctive feel. Ideal for anyone who prefers understated elegance - without compromising on impact.

Relief embossing.
Can't unfeel it.

Relief embossing, also known as raised embossing, is the most striking option. It produces a clearly tactile, three-dimensional effect. Depending on the depth of the embossing and the thickness of the paper, your design really comes to life. Technically, this requires two precisely matched embossing dies - one for the top and one for the bottom. Important: The embossing must be carried out before the cover paper is applied.

Your options at a glance.
Colours, technology, application.

Colours without limits

Choose from a wide range of glossy or matt films - tailored to your brand identity. If you prefer a more subtle look, opt for transparent films or colourless blind embossing.

Multi-colour embossing - up to 4 colours

Multi-colour embossing is also available: up to 4 colours per design, applied by machine with high precision. Colour gradients or striking contrasts create targeted highlights and make your design even more expressive.

Send print data

To ensure that your embossing is perfect, we need your logo, slogan or desired motif in a printable format. Vectorised files such as .ai, .eps or .pdf with at least 300 dpi are ideal. Formats such as .psd, .indd or .jpg are also possible – please ensure that all images are embedded.

Design review & stamp production

Our graphic designer takes care of the finishing touches: we check your data, place the motif in the desired position and create a proof for approval. Once you have approved the proof, we manufacture an embossing stamp from aluminium or brass – in multiple sizes if required, e.g. for different types of jewellery packaging.

Embossing your product

Once everything is right, production begins. Your packaging is embossed either fully automatically or by hand, depending on the material and print run. We optimally coordinate all parameters such as pressure, temperature and holding time to ensure that the result is exactly as you imagine it.

On which materials does hot foil stamping work?

On which materials does hot foil stamping work?

Hot foil stamping is more versatile than many people realise. At LESER, we use hot foil stamping on a wide range of materials - here are the 3 surfaces that are particularly well suited to this process:

  1. Cardboard & Folding Boxes - Cardboard is the ideal material for hot foil stamping. Its smooth, firm surface holds the foil precisely in place, ensuring a sharp, clear finish - whether for jewellery boxes, folding packaging or slip-lid boxes.
  2. Coated paper & fine paper - Embossing stands out particularly well on coated or slightly glossy papers - ideal for carrier bags.
  3. Plastic - Our plastics can also be embossed. At LESER-Plastic packaging, we assess in advance which process and which film are best suited to the material in question.

Frequently asked
questions

Hot foil stamping is a finishing technique that uses heat, pressure and a coloured foil to transfer a glossy or matt effect onto the surface – for example, for logos, lettering or design elements.
You can choose from a wide range of foil colours – from classic gold and silver to matt, metallic or even transparent shades.
Yes, that's possible! This option is called blind embossing. No foil is used in this process; the motif is colourless but can be felt and seen through light and shadow.
Hot foil stamping is suitable for many materials, especially paper, cardboard, leather or textured surfaces. It is important to have a stable, heat-resistant surface.
Yes, the embossing is very abrasion-resistant and significantly more durable than conventional colour printing – even with frequent contact, e.g. on carrier bags or packaging.
That depends on the process. With classic flat embossing, the effect is flat and shiny. With relief embossing, you can also achieve noticeable, three-dimensional results.
Yes, we can emboss up to four colours in one motif – mechanically and with high precision. Please contact us for sample embossings.
Ideally, you should provide your logo or motif as a vector file (e.g. .ai, .eps or .pdf). High-resolution .jpg or .psd files with at least 300 dpi are also possible.
After checking your data, we will create a proof for approval. A embossing stamp will then be produced – and your packaging will be embossed automatically or by hand at our premises.
Hot foil stamping is possible on many products, e.g. on boxes, cases, carrier bags or cushion lids in jewellery packaging. Just tell us what you have in mind – we will be happy to advise you.
In classic printing, ink is applied directly to the surface. The result is visible but remains smooth. In hot foil stamping, heat and pressure work together. A foil is applied in a targeted manner and, depending on the process, creates shine, texture or both. The difference is therefore not only in the appearance, but above all in the feel and perceived value.
Hot foil stamping is more than just a visual effect. It is visible and tangible. Metallic gloss or matt effects combine with tangible depth and clear contours. The result is a precise, durable and high-quality look. It is precisely this combination that makes packaging appear more elegant and memorable.
Hot foil stamping is available even for small print runs. As a custom die is produced for each stamping job, we recommend a minimum order quantity to ensure that the die costs are cost-effective. We would be happy to discuss the appropriate minimum quantity for your project with you in person.
