Whether for commercial or private purposes, there are a few questions to consider when shipping jewellery, which we would like to answer here. From the question of insurance to shipping costs and the best packaging for jewellery – you will find everything you need to know here!

Sending jewellery commercially

Sending jewellery commercially

Many jewellers and young jewellery retailers now mainly present and sell their jewellery online. Alongside these modern opportunities, there are also small challenges that need to be overcome.

When it comes to commercial jewellery shipping and packaging, young jewellers in particular face important questions. In addition to shipping costs, which account for a significant proportion of the total costs, it is above all the integrity of the jewellery that is of paramount importance to online retailers.

In the commercial sector in particular, there are now various packaging types available for sending jewellery safely and cost-effectively. Although they all serve their purpose, there are differences in how they are used and how they are constructed.

Our flat jewellery boxes, which are available in five different sizes and are suitable for the most common items of jewellery, have been specially designed for shipping jewellery. Their low height makes them ideal for packing in padded envelopes.

Send jewellery privately

Send jewellery privately

Sending jewellery by large letter - If the jewellery you have sold in an online auction or simply want to send to a friend is not particularly valuable, it can be sent by large letter (maximum height: 2 cm). Bubble envelopes are particularly suitable for jewellery, as they cushion the jewellery and protect it from external damage.

However, if you do not have any air-cushioned envelopes to hand, we recommend carefully wrapping the jewellery in soft padding material and placing this in an envelope. Take care to avoid any irregular bulges. These are practically guaranteed to cause damage to the envelope during posting or transport, and in the worst case, the jewellery could even be lost. In addition, irregular bulges make it possible to feel the contents, which exposes the jewellery to an increased risk of theft. However, large letters are not insured during shipping.

Send jewellery with insured parcel

Send jewellery with insured parcel

The situation is completely different when sending jewellery by insured parcel. If the jewellery to be sent is particularly valuable, whether materially or emotionally, insured shipping may be worthwhile. After all, potential theft lurks everywhere, even in parcel centres or during transport. However, valuable jewellery is not easily recognisable in a small parcel and is therefore not as susceptible to theft. If the parcel is lost in transit, the contents are often insured up to a certain value. It is advisable to find out in advance about the various prices and packages, as well as the terms and conditions and insurance options, from the respective shipping service provider.

However, transport insurance only applies if the jewellery has been packed properly. Pre-made shipping cartons are suitable for private individuals. These are filled with the jewellery case and then with suitable filling material and sealed. Jewellery should be protected from damage. Bubble wrap is suitable as filling material for private use.

Bonus: Shipping cartons with a height of 5 centimetres or more are handed over to the recipient in person. This prevents any damage to the jewellery when it is placed in the letterbox.
